Our Story

Our Story

At käri, we create experiences where flavour meets passion.

The Name

käri: Ancient Roots, Modern Craft

“ käri” — the ancient voice of culinary tradition

The name Käri draws inspiration from the Tamil word “kari” (கறி), meaning “sauce”. This ancient term is also the root of the English word “curry” and originates from Tamil — a classical language from Southern India and one of the oldest surviving languages in the world.

For over two millennia, Tamil cuisine has celebrated the art of sauce-making — layering spices, building flavour through patience and precision. Käri honours this legacy while embracing modern culinary innovation. Every dish we prepare carries this tradition forward.

The Käri Way

Three principles guide everything we create

Indian Roots, Fresh Inspiration

Our food celebrates India’s regional flavours, bringing together vibrant spices, fresh local produce and cherished family recipes inspired by fond memories.

Good Food, Warm Welcomes

A table with friends, a family celebration or a relaxed evening out—Käri is your local neighbourhood restaurant, bringing people together and making every visit feel special.

A Passion Built Over Time

From Konkan in 2004 to Käri in Inchicore, our journey has always been guided by the same passion: cooking good Indian food and sharing it with Dublin.

Since 2004

Honoured by critics, beloved by community

2004

The Beginning on Clanbrassil Street:

Konkan opens its very first doors on Clanbrassil Street in Dublin. Founded as a family-run business, the restaurant sets out with a foundational vision: to serve authentic, honest Indian food crafted with fresh local produce, and genuine hospitality.

2004–2010

Building a Legacy:

Over its first several years, Konkan puts down roots in Dublin, earning awards, positive newspaper reviews and recognition for its food and hospitality. Above all, it becomes a much-loved neighbourhood restaurant, built on the appreciation, loyalty and continued support of its local community.

2011

Expansion to Dundrum:

Following years of success at its original location, Konkan expands by opening a second restaurant in Dundrum. The new branch brings the same dedication to high culinary standards, signature spice blends, and attentive family hospitality to a brand-new neighborhood.

2012–2022 –

Evolving Regional Flavors & Resilience:

Embracing its namesake—the vibrant Konkan coast of India—we continues to refine its menus, balancing timeless local favorites with specialized regional dishes. Through unprecedented industry challenges in 2020–2022, Konkan successfully adapts via takeaway and community-focused dining services.

2023

Opened our doors on Emmet Road

The family business opens Käri in Inchicore, bringing fresh energy to Indian cooking with vibrant flavours, local produce and a warm neighbourhood welcome.

2023–2024

Critical acclaim & community love

Glowing reviews from food critics, five-star ratings from guests, and the trust of our local community keep us inspired.

2024 & Beyond

Expanding the Retail

We begin a new chapter with Kāri Stores, a small café and fine foods shop offering freshly baked breads, local pastries and artisan foods from Ireland and beyond. A welcoming space for friends to meet, relax and enjoy freshly brewed coffee and tasty toasties, with lovely wines to take home—including organic and biodynamic options—and plenty more to discover.

Where We Source
